Orthodontic treatment is available for enrolled family members (non-spouse) up to, but not including, 21 years of age*. A member who is enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university is eligible up to, but not including, 23 years of age*.
Orthodontic treatment is also available for spouses and National Guard/Reserve members under the age of 23*. National Guard/Reserve members should check with their unit commanders to ensure compliance with service policies prior to receiving orthodontic treatment. The presence of orthodontic appliances may affect dental
readiness for recall and eligibility for certain assignments and may necessitate the inactivation or removal of the orthodontic appliances at the National Guard/Reserve member’s expense.
Prior to receiving any orthodontic care, you should verify your TDP enrollment with United Concordia. The patient must be enrolled in the TDP each month in order for orthodontic payments to be issued.
Under the TDP, orthodontic payments vary depending on the service area (CONUS versus OCONUS). More information on orthodontic payments can be found in the CONUS Orthodontic Care and the Overseas Dental
Care sections.
If the patient receiving orthodontic treatment disenrolls or loses TDP coverage during the course of the quarterly payments, payments cannot be issued for those months with no TDP coverage. If the patient’s TDP coverage is reinstated during the original quarterly payments schedule, payments will be made but only for those months (current and past) for which the patient was enrolled.
*In all cases, coverage is effective until the end of the month in which the member reaches the applicable age limit.
