What is the Command Sponsored Policy? Command
Sponsored TDP enrollee claims for dental care provided outside of the OCONUS military
dental treatment facility(ODTF) are paid under the OCONUS cost-share structure.
Non-Command Sponsored TDP enrollee claims for OCONUS non-ODTF care are paid
under the CONUS cost-share structure.(See cost-share chart in the
TDP
Benefit Booklet.)
Am I Command Sponsored? Determination
of a TDP enrollee's Command Sponsored status is primarily based on their enrollment
in either the TRICARE Overseas Program (TOP) Prime or TRICARE Global Remote Overseas
(TGRO) program as reflected in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System
(DEERS). TDP enrollees who are not enrolled in TOP or TGRO, but are Command Sponsored as
noted on their sponsor's overseas orders, are also eligible for the OCONUS cost-share
structure for the claims payment; proof of Command Sponsorship must be provided to UCCI.
How can I receive orthodontic treatment overseas?
The orthodontic services covered under TDP are comprehensive, however, some limitations apply.
For specifics on the TDP service limitations, as well as TDP orthodontic services limitations, please
refer to the TDP
Benefit Booklet.
You are required to obtain a Non-Availability
Referral Form (NARF) for all orthodontic services received in the OCONUS service
area, and services must be performed by an orthodontist on the
Host Nation
Provider Directory. This Directory provides a list of dentists that have been
verified by TMA as having met certain Government quality criteria.
How can I receive implant procedures overseas?
The implant services covered under the TDP are extensive and include surgical placement,
prefabricated abutment, custom abutment and more. There are, however, some limitations. For
specifics on the TDP service limitations, as well as TDP implant services limitations,
please refer to the
TDP
Benefit Booklet
How can I file a claim in an OCONUS area?
Many civilian overseas dental offices require their patients to pay for all dental
services at the time they are rendered. They also may require you to
personally submit your claims to United Concordia for reimbursement
of your out-of-pocket expenses (not including cost-shares).
Your dental claims must be completed and submitted to United Concordia as soon
as possible following the date of service, preferably within 60 days.
Any claim filed more than 12 months after the month in which the service was
completed will be denied. To ensure your claim is properly processed and avoid
any possible payment delay, these three items must be submitted to United Concordia:
TDP OCONUS Claim Form
Dentist's Bill or Statement of Charges - If
the specific service(s) provided are repeated on the claim form, a separate
office bill is not needed.
Non-Availability Referral Form (NARF) - This
is required for orthodontic and implant services and a dentist on the Host Nation Provider
Directory must be used or the claim will be denied. One exception is Canada, where
members may receive care from any dentist; however, a NARF is still required prior
to obtaining treatment for orthodontic or implant services.
