Non-Remote OCONUS Locations

Non-remote OCONUS locations are those OCONUS countries where the uniformed services have a fixed overseas dental treatment facility (ODTF). Non-remote locations include:

Overseas Host Nation Provider Directory

If you live in a non-remote area and the ODTF cannot provide your dental care, you are authorized to seek care from Host Nation Provider (HNP). You must access this care from a dentist listed on the HNP Directory if one is available within 50 miles (81 kilometers) of your residence. If there is no dentist listed on the HNP directory within 50 miles (81 kilometers) of your residence, you may seek care from any dentist.

The HNP Directory provides you with a comprehensive list of dentists whose dental practices have been verified by TMA as having met certain Government quality criteria.

TRICARE OCONUS PREFERRED DENTISTS (TOPDs)

TOPDs are HNPs who have also agreed to perform the following:

• Collect only the applicable cost share amount (if any) from the enrollee at the time of service. You will not have to pay for all dental services in full at the time of treatment.
  
  
• Agree to complete and submit your claim forms to United Concordia for authorized and/or covered services rendered to TDP enrollees.
  
  
• Submit predeterminations for complex and costly services prior to rendering treatment so you will know what out of pocket expenses you can expect.

Enrollees do not have to utilize a TOPD to receive TDP OCONUS benefits; however, payment may be expected at the time of care and you may have to submit your own claim form.

The TOPD program is a new initiative that began in late 2007. To find a TOPD, access our Host Nation Provider Directory and select the TRICARE OCONUS Preferred Dentists option. You may also contact your TAO for a copy of this directory.

National Guard/Reserve Members

National Guard/Reserve members and their families are required to use dentists on the HNP Directory for orthodontic and implant services only; however, use of dentists on the Directory for all services is highly recommended. Reminder

A Non-Availability Referral Form is required for orthodontic and implant services that cannot be performed in an ODTF. More information about seeking care in the OCONUS Service Area is available in the TRICARE Dental Program Benefit Booklet.
