What is the Fisher House?
The Fisher House Foundation, Inc. is the national organization supporting
"Fisher Houses," which provide a compassionate home environment for the
families of seriously ill service men and women, veterans, and their
families. There are 33 "Fisher Houses" located near major military medical
centers that provide family members with housing during a loved one's
medical treatment - at an average of less than $10 a day!
Since the onset of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, nearly
2,500 families have been guests of the Fisher Houses.
How has United Concordia supported Fisher House?
United Concordia has supported the Fisher House Foundation, Inc. by sponsoring the 1
May 2006 Fisher House Charity Golf Tournament as a designated "Eagle Sponsor."
Additionally, United Concordia's TDP Customer Service Department's Activity Team
has undertaken a local fundraiser to show their support and commitment to the Fisher
House Foundation, Inc. The department began selling "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS"
bracelets for $1 to United Concordia employees on 29 Mar 2006. All proceeds from
the sale (minus the cost) will be donated to the Fisher House Foundation, Inc.
"We have been so pleased with the positive response to the sale," said Karen Dill,
Activity Team Coordinator. There has been so much interest that we have already
ordered more bracelets. We are excited to contribute to such a worthy cause. "
